Beginning Ruby
April 7th, 2007
Some years ago I started a project for Wrox to write Beginning Ruby. The tech book market was dismal, all the more so for the then little-known Ruby language.
I had about 300 pages that sat around on one hard drive or another, but finally decide to work out some means to release what still seemed useful while dropping the crufty Mainstream Book Publisher tone.
Sadly much of what I wrote was needless duplication of easy-to-acquire info much as how to install Ruby and basic library references. So the transition has been slow. Basically, I’ rewriting the narrative. I want better examples, useful interesting stuff, not the usual Code That Shows Syntax But Does Damn Little of Interest.
I’m currently inclined to dump raw chunks of the original book on-line.
